TRANSPORTATION BETWEEN HARBOR VIEW INN AND CAMPUS
The scientific program will feature talks by UCSB faculty, students, and industry representatives, as well as poster sessions (click here to see MROP2010 Abstracts) where the scope of materials research at UCSB can be appreciated through one-on-one contact with graduate students and faculty. We will have a symposium banquet Thursday evening (Feb. 4th) following the second poster session. We urge you to take the opportunity to stay in Santa Barbara over the weekend, not just to save money on your airfare, but also to experience some of the many recreational possibilities and scenic attractions that Santa Barbara has to offer. PLEASE CONTACT Maureen Evans FOR REGISTRATION INFORMATION The DEADLINE FOR ROOM RESERVATIONS is January 15, 2010. We have set aside a number of rooms at the Harbor View Inn, 28 W. Cabrillo Blvd. in downtown Santa Barbara for participants in the symposium. Please note: The special rate is based on single occupancy. Please phone for reservations at (800) 755-0222 and ask for Sylvie in Group Sales as soon as possible to reserve a room at the special rate - space is limited. Tell them that you are with the "UCSB MROP 2010". In any case, please put these dates (February 3-5, 2010) on your calendar. Support for this program is provided by the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the Materials Research Science and Engineering Program of the National Science Foundation. SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: COMPLEX FLUIDS DESIGN CONSORTIUM MEETING The sixth annual meeting of the Complex Fluids Design Consortium (CFDC) will take place on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) in the Materials Research Laboratory Seminar Room, Room 2053. This initiative brings together UCSB faculty with researchers from industry and national laboratories interested in the computational design and processing behavior of soft materials and complex fluid formulations. Inquiries should be directed to Sara Bard (sara@mc-cam.ucsb.edu or 805-893-7913). |

We are proud to announce the Materials Research Outreach Program (MROP 2010) Symposium
will be held February 3-5, 2010 at the UCSB Corwin Pavilion. As in past years, it will
comprise two consecutive programs. The Macromolecular Outreach Program (MOP) Symposium,
which will take place on Wednesday and Thursday morning, will focus on research efforts
concerned with the science and engineering of organic-based macromolecules and polymers.
The Inorganic Materials Program Symposium will be held on Thursday afternoon and Friday
morning. The overall program is designed to stimulate collaborative research between
faculty groups at UCSB and industry scientists and engineers under the auspices of
our Materials Research Laboratory, a Materials Research Science and Engineering Centers
funded by the National Science Foundation. Several UC-industry joint research efforts
have been initiated as a result of this Program. As befits the interdisciplinary nature
of this effort, our participating faculty represent a number of departments (e.g. Materials,
Biomolecular Science & Engineering, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering,
Electrical and Computer Engineering, Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology,
Mechanical and Environmental Engineering and Physics) and many have joint appointments
in more than one department. Please review the preliminary list of
