Macromolecular Outreach Program at UCSB We are proud to announce the kick-off symposium of our new Macromolecular Outreach Program at UCSB to be held Thursday and Friday, January 28th and 29th, 1999. This program is designed to stimulate collaborative research between faculty groups at UCSB and industry scientists and engineers under the auspices of our Materials Research Laboratory, one of the Materials Research Science and Engineering Centers funded by the National Science Foundation, and one of the largest such interdisciplinary centers with a strong research emphasis on macromolecular materials. As befits the interdisciplinary nature of this effort, our participating faculty come from many departments (Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Materials) and many have joint appointments in more than one department. The symposium will feature talks by UCSB faculty, students, and industry representatives as well as a poster session where the full scope of research at UCSB can be appreciated through one-on-one contact with graduate students and faculty. Please have a look at the agenda which gives details of these talks. We will have a symposium banquet Thursday evening after the poster session. We urge you to take the opportunity to stay in Santa Barbara over the weekend, not just to save money on your airfare, but also to experience some of the many recreational possibilities and scenic attractions that Santa Barbara has to offer. We have set aside a set of rooms at the Harbor View Inn, 28 W. Cabrillo Blvd. in downtown Santa Barbara for participants in the symposium. Please phone for reservations at (800) 755-0222 as soon as possible to reserve a room - mention that you are with the UCSB Macromolecular Outreach Symposium. The deadline for room reservations is December 29, 1998. Please use the on-line registration form to add your name to the list of attendants. If you have questions, please contact
