Cooperative International Science and Engineering Internships

Cooperative International Science and Engineering Internships: The Materials Research Laboratory (MRL) and The International Center for Materials Research (ICMR) are seeking undergraduate science and engineering majors who are interested in pursuing a research experience overseas. This internship program will send science and engineering undergraduates from US colleges and universities to international partner institutions for a 10-week summer research experience. Internships are available at research centers in Shanghai-China; Santiago-Chile; Eindhoven-Netherlands; Oxford-England; Dublin-Ireland; Cork-Ireland; and Saarbruecken-Germany. Interns will gain first-hand experience in scientific investigation in a dynamic, collaborative research environment and enjoy the overall experience of being abroad. Participating students will be matched individually with designated mentors, working in collaboration throughout the program. We encourage applications from students interested in interdisciplinary materials science, with backgrounds in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical or Computer Engineering, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Materials or Physics. Preference will be given to applicants from southern California schools and those with prior research experience, including UCSB internship programs. Internship Awards: The Summer CISEI program will run from June 22 to August 29, 2009. Internship dates may be flexible depending on location of institution.
