PHOTOINDUCED LINKAGE ISOMERIZATION OF RU(SALEN)(ONO)(NO)
Research in fundamental photochemical reactions related to nitric oxide and
nitrite helps further the understanding of the reactivity of these biologically
important molecules. This research describes the synthesis, characterization,
and photochemistry of Ru(salen)(ONO)(NO). FTIR spectroscopy is currently being
used to study the photochemical loss of NO and the possible photoinduced linkage
isomerization of the O-bound nitrito ligand (-ONO) producing an N-bound
nitrite species (-NO2). Studies regarding this isomerization
provides insight into the fundamental interactions between ruthenium and
NOx species.
