I am fascinated by structure—property relations in crystalline inorganic materials, and in particular, the role played by local structure. I employ state-of-the-art techniques including synchrotron X-ray and neutron total scattering to unravel structural intricacies that lead to the interesting properties of functional materials. My current research addresses phosphors for solid-state lighting, Pb-free polar materials, hybrid photovoltaics, and materials undergoing insulator-to-metal transitions.
