Measurements

Determine the molecular weight of your water soluble polymer with Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) using a Waters 2695 Separations module. Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) is a type of liquid chromatography method that separates molecules on the basis of hydrodynamic size (not Mw). The large molecules move more rapidly through the GPC column, while the smaller molecules reside longer on the column causing separation. Using GPC, you can determine the number average molecular weight, weight average molecular weight, Z weight average molecular weight, and the most fundamental characteristic of a polymer, its molecular weight distribution (PDI= Mw/Mn).
