Research Internships in Science and Engineering
Summer Research Program
The UCSB Materials Research Laboratory (MRL) and the UCSB College of Engineering are seeking undergraduate science and engineering majors who are interested in pursuing a research experience. This internship program supports UCSB undergraduate students from across the STEM disciplines in an intensive 9-week summer research experience at UCSB. Interns will gain first-hand experience in scientific investigation in a dynamic, collaborative research environment. In addition to research, interns also participate in weekly group meetings to develop oral presentation skills, attend special seminars and present their results at an end-of-summer poster session.
Internship Awards:
- The RISE Summer program will run from June 15 - August 14, 2026.
- The intern stipend is $6,000 total for 9 weeks at 35 hours/week.
- Approximately 5 internship awards will be given in the area of science and engineering. Priority will be towards projects that fall within the research scope of the MRL.
- Students will need to identify a faculty mentor and research project before applying to the program.
