This program provides 9-week summer research internships for students from Jackson State University and University of California, Santa Barbara.

Jackson State University students:
Science and engineering students from Jackson State University acquire research experience in a variety of exciting fields through these internships. Interns meet regularly to share their experiences and report on their progress. Jackson State students should apply through our FLAM internship website.

JSU students should apply to FLAM here.

UCSB Science and Engineering Students:
Students acquire research experience in interdisciplinary materials science at UT El Paso.  UCSB interns will receive meaningful exposure to research methodology and will participate with a cohort of summer interns from colleges and universities around the country. Interns receive a $5,000 stipend, up to $600 for travel, and housing in shared apartments on the UTEP campus.

Eligibility:
U.S. citizen or permanent resident
UCSB undergraduates enrolled for Fall 2026
